Lordaeron was a human kingdom that lead the Alliance of Lordaeron during the Second War. Its name is supposedly derived from a combintion of words stemming from the human, dwarvish, and elvish languages: "lorn" (in dwarven) meaning "land", "daer" (in common) meaning "people" and "ronae" (in Thalassian) menaing peaceful.

"Here lies King Terenas Menethil II -- Last True King of Lordaeron.

Great were his deeds -- long was his reign -- unthinkable was his death.

May the Father lie blameless for the deeds of the son. May the bloodied crown stay lost and forgotten."

- Inscription upon King Terenas' Grave

History[]

During the Second War, Lordaeron provided refuge to Lord Anduin Lothar and the people of Stormwind under his charge following that kingdom's destruction at the end of the First War. During the Second War, Lordaeron spearheaded the Alliance's campaign against the Orcish Horde of Orgrim Doomhammer. Lordaeron was almost entirely destroyed as a result of Prince Arthas Menethil's betrayal and subsequent invasion by the Undead Scourge during the Third War.

Current Status[]

Today the former kingdom's territory lays, for the most part, in complete ruins. Despite this, the land is hotly contested between a variety of competeing forces, including:

  • The last forces of the Undead Scourge.
  • The undead former citizens of Lordaeron under Lady Sylvanas Windrunner known as the Forsaken.
  • An organization of former citizens, knights, and noblemen known as the League of Lordaeron.
  • A band of former citizens and nobleman pledging loyalty to the Kingdom of Lordaeron Restored under Lady Madelynne Albrecht, styled Queen Madelynne I.

Although the League of Lordaeron and Kingdom of Lordaeron Restored both possess different notions of how Lordaeron should be redeemed, they both stand together in some form of unity under the banner of the Alliance, as opposed to the Crusade, Forsaken, and Scourge, which all make up competing and seperate interests.
